Pacemaker : Electronic Device to maintain Heart Rhythm

Updated: Apr 21, 2020

Pacemaker is a small battery-operated device which provides electric impulses to heart and helps in maintaining regular rhythm, it is placed under Collar Bone and Leads are connected to Heart through Veins. Human Heart is having Natural Pacemaker called Sinus Node, which is responsible for regular beating of Heart. In cases of Arrhythmia where Heart is incapable of beating regularly, Doctor might recommend a Pacemaker to correct it.

Pacemaker consists of a Pulse Generator and Lead Wires. Pulse Generator creates an electric pulse of 2~5 volts in logarithmic square wave pattern to compensate and generate pacing for maintaining Heart Rhythm.

Pacemaker Technology :

Pacemaker nowadays are available with Piezoelectric Self-Rechargeable Battery with significant lifetime 6~9 years. It should be checked for Pulse and history every 6 months. If required, the Doctor must reprogram pacemaker making adjustments to patient requirement.

Every pacemaker has its certificate of usage and patient will be provided ID card from hospital. In case of Medical Emergencies or journey through Airport during security check while going through Door Frame Metal Detector (DFMD) or Body scan this ID card will be helpful to ensure better care and creating exception for the patient.
